Hurry, its almost Christmas!

Standard

Only two days until Christmas and I am still finishing up the gifts!  I just completed the second jaywalker and will be giving them to Tierney.  She has asked for new boots but wants to pick them out – so no wrapped gift to put under the tree.  With the new socks, at least she will have SOMETHING to open!  I also finished quilting a giraffe wall hanging that Aunt K put together.  Gma  bought it as a kit sometime ago, Kathy did the piecing and I got to do the quilting and binding.  A total group effort destined for DeeDee.  Hope she likes it….I don’t know…she is so into boy bands now and has kinda lost the mojo for giraffes.  We’ll see.

Besides these to gifts, I only have one more to finish – it is an apron for Tom.  I want to somehow put on the bib of the apron “Papa’s cooking show”.  The girls have long teased Tom about how he cooks because he so meticulously follows recipes and talks to himself while he is in the kitchen.  They say it reminds them of the funny cooking shows on TV and have told him he needs to get his own show.  I have a couple of new cook books to go along with the apron that I picked up for a couple bucks at the second hand store.  Gma actually gave me the apron which she had received as a gag gift at some point.  I’m betting that this will be his favorite gift!

And when all the sewing and knitting are finally done, it will be time to hit the stores for a couple of final small gifts for the stockings and picking up the house.  Tierney and Dan are going to be here all day tomorrow and are half expecting us to come up with something to do to entertain them.  I am thinking about planning a neighborhood or mall scavenger hunt.  Just to get everybody up and moving around and away from the computers!!!!!!!  Now to come up with a prize that will entice everyone enough to participate…… Hope everyone has a Merry and Fun Christmas!

knitting, knitting, everywhere…

As Christmas approaches and the weather turns colder I am getting more and more wrapped up in all of my knitting projects.  The new knitty group is also contributing to the frenzy.  I really enjoy getting together once a week with the ladies to chat and knit but there is that need to have a project on the needles.  So the latest … a linen stitch cowl (which I love) made from Misti Alpaca.  A one day knit.  And a new pair of Jaywalkers made from Sensations Bamboo and Ewe from JoAnns.

I have also managed to finish Ansley’s Elephant socks.  Additionally, I have been working on my quilts and have gotten all but one of the squares put together for the English Paper Pieced Quilt.  No progress whatsoever on the Dear Jane tho!

And although I love my crafts, I have nearly finished reading Les Mis – in anticipation of the movie.  I have enjoyed most of it -with the exception of the parts about the fighting – and I am reading the DiVinci Code in spanish, about 75 pages into it.  I want to keep reading now because the story is just starting to get good, but alas, the laundry is calling (or is that my husband asking me why he has not clean pants???)

Last night I took Ansley, DeeDee and a bunch of A.’s friends to see the new Hobbit movie.  Bill Staton drove also, as I couldn’t fit everyone in the car.  The movie was okay, but REALLY long, and I don’t think it would be very enjoyable if you hadn’t read the books before hand.   We saw it at the IMAX in 3-D so my eyes were all wonky and I still had a headache this morning.  Unfortunately, we got there a little late so the girls had to sit in the second row from the front – but , hey, at least they got to go!

Tonite it is off to the city with the Macy’s and the Wimpffen’s to have Thai and go to the Green Mill Jazz Club.  Looking forward to it since we so rarely go into the city – and I love going out with these guys!  FUN FUN

What do skiing and golf have in common?

Standard

Well, for one thing you can do both during the first weekend of Dec. if you live in the Chicagoland area.  Tom went golfing on Saturday, as it was 64 degrees out and sunny, with no wind.  At the same time T. and her boyfriend went skiing in Wisconsin.  A couple of hour drive from here.  It was in the 50’s and there was about 6 to 10 inches of man made snow on the runs.  All so wierd.  It is even warmer here in Chicago today.  I think it may even reach 70!  I saw a blooming dandelion on a walk today and my mums are starting to rebloom in the pots that I bought back in the early fall!  but NOPE, there is no such thing as Global Warming!  Just ask the rightwing crazies!

So as I enjoy the Florida like weather here in the midwest I am getting myself ready for Christmas.  Lots of decorating going on and gifts being crafted.

I made 13 or 14 pairs of wool mittens for a new business venture I am comtemplating.  Lots of people have expressed interest in them and am hoping to get them into some of the local gift shops.  One of my knitty group friends is also interested in joining in.  We’ll see…..

I have whipped up a couple of new reversible shopping bags this past week from a tutorial I found on the internet..  I was considering giving them away as gifts for xmas, but now I want to keep them!  I found an IKEA curtain panel at Goodwill for $2.99 which I used for the outside. It is nice and stiff and has a beautiful textured pattern of branches on it.  I lined on bag with cotton fabric from my stash and the other with part of a black sheet (also a Goodwill bargain).  The ruffling is frayed strips ripped from cotton. These bags are soooo much more stylish than the heavy duty plastic bags from Italy that I have been using!  Maybe I’ll gift the plastic ones to Tom!!  Now there is an idea!

The rest of this week is going to be devoted to finishing up some of my WIP’s.  The elephant socks for A. are almost done – but I ran out of yarn with only an inch to go – so have to figure out what to do there.  Am also going to try and make some progress on one of my quilt projects.  I know that my sister is now far ahead of me on the Dear Jane quilt so maybe will work on that to try and catch back up a bit.  Also want to make some zucchini bread and knit a couple of more xmas balls for gifts.  This doesn’t include all of the laundry that is piling up and the basement that needs to be straightened out…..Never enough hours in the day!

Especially when one is glued to the computer!!!!!!
